The Nexus S is the current flagship device from Google, whilst the iPhone 4 has been the flagship device for Apple for a while now. Although we do expect both devices to be superseded by successor models in 2011, nevertheless they are arguably the cream of the crop right now and merit a comparison of their own.
Both phones can claim what is the best and brightest of displays in the market right now. The Nexus S boasts Samsung's 4-inch capacitive Super AMOLED touchscreen, which is a 480 x 800 WVGA type resolution and supports 16. million colours. The iPhone 4 has a 3.5-inch Retina Display and has a higher resolution of 640 x 960 pixels.
A unique point to note is that both devices have front-facing cameras for video-calling. This is something that is surprisingly not a granted feature for the current batch of phones, despite all the chest-thumping about 3G, 3.5G and even 4G data speeds.
Both phones use high-end 1GHz processors. The iPhone 4 uses the 1GHz Apple A4 processor and the Nexus S uses a 1GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird processor.
The Nexus S has an 8-megapixel camera whereas the iPhone 4 has a 5-megapixel camera. We do not suppose that the camera is the reason for buying either device, but in the comparison pictures that we have seen, pictures from the iPhone 4 are much clearer than pictures from the 8-megapixel Nexus S camera.
Frankly, it is quite a difficult thing to choose between both devices. It will probably come down to the type of apps and the interface that you are used to. Apple has more apps in its store for now, but Android is growing at such a pace that most analysts agree that it will eventually outpace its competitors.

The Nexus S is the world's first mobile phone to feature a 4-inch Contour Display. Its unique design and curved display make it easy to use while the powerful 1GHz application processor combined with the newest version of Android 2.3 or “Gingerbread” means users will enjoy one of the fastest and most seamless user experiences available. The combined Flash and HTML5 technology means internet browsing is high-speed and sophisticated.
